Abstract
This study is a review of 6 women who underwent Tompkins metroplasty for symmetric uterine anomalies, during the period of 1989~1993, at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, St. Benedict Hospital, Pusan. The 6 women had septate uterus in
all
cases and the history of recurrent abortion(three or more consecutive spontaneous abortion ) or infertility (inability to achieve pregnancy within 1 year, or repeated failure to carry a pregnancy to term).
The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of Tompkins metroplasty on reproductive perfomance of symmetric uterine anomalies(septate uterus) and determine postoperative complication of the procedure.
@ES The results are summarized as follows.
@EN 1. The symmetric uterine anomalies were repaired structually in 3 cases, it was confirmed by means of hysterosalpingography(HSG) after metroplasty. No major complications(ex, uterine rupture) were occured in association with the operations.
2. The average period from operation to conception in 4 cases was 20 months(range 3 to 39 months ) and the other 2 cases were failed to follow up. Of these pregnancies, 2 were ended as term delivery and 2 as preterm delivery. But 4 all
pregnancies
had
living babies by means of ceserean section.
In conclusion, our results confirm the view that metroplasty seems to be an operation of choice in women with symmetric uterine anomallies and a history of recurrent abortion and infertility.
